Odpočívání u bazénu, oddech a čtení knížky.

Out trip continued on the Carribean coast, at 5 in the morning we took a bus from Cartagena to Santa Marta, another touristic place. We didn’t really want to stay in the city, so we found a nice hostel on the outskirts of the city. The Dreamers hostel was a place where we met many tourists with the same plan – to have a rest and then continue to the national park Tayrona.

Resting by the swimming pool, rellaxing and reading books. And the next day we were ready to go.

We arrived in the national park by bus, paid the entrance fee and took a short ride in a jeep to the first tourist paths. And then it was like going through the wonderland – green, exotic, with lots of animals (crabs, monkeys, capybaras). The forest fascinated me completely, the changes of the types of it at the places we were going through. Beautiful, but not-for-swimming beaches, climbing up and down on the forest paths and we were getting to our destination. In one moment appeared a group of native indians from in front of us. Until now I regret not taking any pictures, but they looked unfriendly and not happy to see visitors in their land. So I didn’t dare.

We spent the day on the beach Cabo de San Juan and the night as well there, sleeping in hammocks. The next day we made a trip to Pueblito, former indian village. It was quite difficult hike – we were climbing up on a big wet stones, a steep slope right next to us... But we both made it and spend a while in meditation in a place, where the native people used to live. Nowadays they are not beeing seen here, they moved further up to the mountains (The Tayrona National Parque is located between the foot on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains which comes up to 5700 metres and the Carribean coast), but the remainings of their houses are still there and every now and then we heard their drums from the forest.

The same day we decided that we had had enough of the beach and sun and that we rather set on the trip to Bucaramanga. So we left the national park and took a night bus from Santa Marta to Bucaramanga.

Our visit of historical city of Cartagena was short. We spent there only one whole day, we were walking in the historical centre locked in its walls, we were taking pictures and eating some nice food. The reason to spend such a short time there wasn’t that we wouldn’t like the city or that there wouldn’t be anything to do, but we simply had just a limited amount of time and decided to rather spend it in the national park Tayrona or in Santander. Additionally neither of us is that keen on the hot weather, so it was easily decided.

Cartagena is a touristic centre, especially for Colombians. It was founded in the 16th century and during the whole colonial era it was one of the most important ports of Latin America. You can feel the touch of the history in every of the narrow alleys of the city, in each of the decorated houses. I highly recommend it, you shouldn’t miss it. Just the hot weather...

During the days spent with my mom in Cali we had an urgent need to go to a countryside. And because my beloved Salento is not far from Cali, we decided to go there. And again I assured myself that that’s a place I would be returning to whenever it would be possible...

I don’t want to repeat myself, where we went, what we ate and what we did was quite similar as the first time, so you can find details in my previous blog entry called Salento. With my mom we had more luck with the weather, so during the hike in the Cocora Valley we got plenty of sunshine and that difference you can see on the photos J

We rellaxed, drunk excellent coffee, enjoyed the peace, learned something new about ourselves, about each other and about coffee... (again I am immensly greatful to the team of people working for Jesús Martín coffee)

But I think we also proved to be ready for long hikes in the Tayrona National Parque – climbing up the mountain and reaching almost three thousand metres is not an easy thing!
