Alhambra. A mnohem víc.

Granada - you can write a novel about this place and not just a short article to a blog. I will let my photos speak instead. Just because long reading is tiring and Granada must be experienced.
The magic of the South, summer heat in the spring, flamenco and tapas. Friendly people. Alhambra. And much more.
For me it was also a reunion after years with Beto, my friend from Finland who kept his promise and as the first one visited me in the Czech Republic before I visited him in Spain. But at the end I managed. Nad it's maybe better that I waited until I know Spanish a little bit - only when you speak someone's language you can really get to know the person.
You can read about Granada for example here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granada
And if you are thinking of going there and would like to here my stories from Granada, don't hesitate and let me know.

My friends and great company in Granada - Gamboa, María, Beto and Carlos.
Kamarádi a skvělí společníci - Gamboa, María, Beto and Carlos.

Do Granady.

At the end I stayed in Santiago for three days. I was very lucky with my host - my Finish friend (we met in Finland) who lives and studies in Santiago. Sara. Very nice hostess with the most incredible and hyperactive Siamese cat. :)
The first evening when I left my "Camino" group another great friend of mine picked me up - my Spanish friend Kris (also her I met in Finland during my Erasmus). Thanks to the evening spent with her I had the chance to digest all the things which I experienced on the Camino (when I was telling her all the stories) and I could also slowly return to reality through listening to her stories. I felt like after a return from a great summer camp to where, you know, you will never go back. Full of impressions, sadness of parting, but also joy of the reunion with a friend I hadn't seen for years I was drinking the beer.

Some remarks from Santiago - the university library was open till 1 a.m. during the exam period and it was full! Interesting...The Camino never ends - just by complete accident I met again with Krysztof and Ewa in the cathedral, finally we could exchange the contact details and we had a coffee together. It was a bunch of little coincidences which brought us together. Or it was simply meant to be...In the streets of Santiago I Jacques and Beatrice again and this reassured me that I would meet them again in the future. With all of them. It affirmed me that the parting wasn't final.
One of the evenings I spent wandering through the city, watching all the buzz, writing notes to my diary and thinking of my next steps.
I didn't want to leave. I started to like Santiago, but it was time to go south. To Granada. And end my trip around Spain there, by fulfilling few years old promise I gave to Beto that I would visit him once in Andalucía.

Miraz - Santiago de Compostela (en)

And because there are no more pictures until Santiago I decided to write just a short summary of the following days. Even though every single one of them would be worth a book...

The day when we left Miraz was the weather very humid and all the time it looked like raining. We were walking through places which were very poorly inhabited, sometimes we couldn’t see the signs of civilization for quite a while and we started to call four big houses together “a village”. At one moment I saved Javi - he was walking alone, a little bit behind the others, no one within sight, and his injuries started to get very painful. And then I appeared and offered him the painkiller. We walked together until we cought up with Ramiro and Adri in another “village” (three houses) with a little cafeteria/bar/shop. The shopkeeper was a very special and very friendly lady and everywhere (in a pot on a table, in a bucket, in a basket, in a box...) were eggs. Seriously!
After a short break we continued until Sobrado de Dos Monxes with an albergue in a very impressive monastery. Maria was already there as well as the guys from Malaga and Enrique. But Nunny and her French companions had to be somewhere behind.

If you ever plan to go to the Camino Norte you shouldn’t miss this place. This monastery is an almost empty copy of the original one. Just about 15 monks is living there and they have the most beautiful church I have ever seen...But I have a very special taste. I loved the church, because it was empty and moldy, but still it wasn’t a ruin. Imagine a very beautiful church of whatever style you like, take away all the stuff like statues, pictures on the walls, leave just one stone as an altar and few woden benches. Let it be like that for few months or weeks in humid weather and wait until it gets the greenish touch every here and there. And you have an idea about the church I saw.

The last part of the Camino del Norte (before it joins the French way in Arzúa) I spent mostly with Ruth - a new member of our group. This day she walked with us. We had many things to talk about, among others the world crisis, the conventionality and how difficult it is to swim againts the flow. For quite a while I was also working as an interpreter between Maria and Ruth, because their knowledge of the others’ language was about the same. But after a while they figured out quite well how to communicate without me.
I didn’t like Arzúa when we entered. And I was pretty sure that “my” camino just ended. So many people! So many pilgrims!!! we stayed in a private albergue (one of many!!) because the public one was closed for reconstruction that day. Again, by chance or from a vagary of the Camino, we ended up in the same albergue with Andras! And one more person I met, but long time ago - Giovanni. Not all together, but most of us we went to try the local specialty “pulpo a la gallego”, the octopus. It was very tasty! And we drunk a lot of wine, maybe way too much!
Nunny met here, in Arzúa, again with her son, who was again alright to walk with her (he had to stop before for some problems) and I think at the beginning it must have been quite hard for him to catch up with our crazy group. But he survived!
I had a nice long walk on the sun, watching the buzz, all the pilgrims passing by. Later I ended up in another albergue, a little bit away from the city, and met Maria there. He was all happy to introduce me to another (and the only one I met during the trip) Czech girl, surprisingly also Tereza. We had a beer with her and our friend from Girona Juan and went back to meet the rest of the group. Then we were altogether sitting in a bar in front of our hostel and chatting until we couldn’t anymore.
This day I had a lot of fun with Ruth, I am really happy we could spend the day together and I hope to meet her some time again!

The next day we walked from Arzúa to Monte del Gozo. Starting early in the morning with all the other pilgrims we disappeared in the mist. When the sun started to shine and we lost the track where among the numbers of pilgrims are the members of our group, we stopped for a coffee to catch up with everyone. Unlike many days before where we had to look for a coffee place, sometimes very hard, from Arzúa you could find one on every kilometer of the trail. But we picked the most hippie-like I have ever seen :) With writings on the walls, on the bathroom walls, on the counter. And with very nice and friendly bartender. We gathered and continued again together until Pedrouzo. Here our group splitted - Javi had severe problems with his leg and wanted to stay there, Ramiro, Adri and the guys from Malaga stayed with him. That meant final splitting of our group. And good-byes. Because you never know if you meet again, especially in the buzz in Santiago.
To Monte del Gozo we arrived together with Ruth and Maria quite in the afternoon, dried out from the sun and hungry. The hostel there is huge - it can accommodate up to 800 pilgrims! It is the last stop before Santiago - you can already see it from the hill there.
During our dinner we met an American man from somewhere near Ruth's home, so the two of them had a lot to talk about. And the nice evening was closed with a short lesson of yoga with views of Santiago and thoughts of the end of the pilgrimage. Beautiful sunset...
Finally also other well-known pilgrims arrived to the same albergue, such as Nunny and Raul, her son and Andras with Giovanni.

The next day we walked the last 5km to Santiago and around 9 a.m. we were already eating our breakfast in one of the cafeterias there. It was just after we picked up our Compostela and talked to many pilgrims we knew from the way. The city was crowded, packed with pilgrims. It was incredible for me...
Me, Ruth and Maria went to the church to the mass at 12, still not knowing where exactly the rest of our group is (even though we knew they were somewhere in there). Just before the end there was a sad good-bye with Maria who needed to run for his bus. And just after that I finally found Ramiro and the guys, Beatrice and Jacques. But Maria was already gone...
Ruth needed to continue - she didn't stay in Santiago. Andras was finally with his girlfriend. And the rest of us went for the last dinner together. It was lovely, it was delicious and the people started to leave. After the dinner, the rest of us who stayed together (Ramiro, Javi, Adri and the guys from Andalucia) went for a beer. I was waiting for my friend to let me know when she can pick me up and slowly digesting all what we lived through on the Camino. So this is it, the end. And promises to see each other again and to keep in touch. I hope we will, but one can never know. Nevertheless whatever happens, they will stay in my mind, my heart.

Vilalba - Miraz (cz)

Protože jsem vyčerpala kapacitu své paměťové karty a bohužel neměla příležitost někde si fotečky zase stáhnout, následující povídání bude až do Santiaga bez obrázků.

A tenhle strom...Nevím, jestli tady nesedím už hodiny.

A všechno tohle mi bue chybět.”

The plan for this day was just few kilometers and the way was very easy. And because of that we could focus even more on our newly created group (I still couldn’t believe it!) which was growing every day.
I spent a lot of time talking with Javi and annoying him with my stupid questions about Spain and Spanish. He realized how difficult it is to explain things to a foreigner sometimes. But he did a very good job at the end, he was patient and if one explanation didn’t work, he used second one and if I still didn’t get what he meant he continued until we understood each other.
His leg was still hurting, but bravely (and with some pain killers) he went on.
The countryside in Galicia was quite different to the one in other places, there were much more trees (not-Eucalyptus trees), fewer people and less hills. And for some reason I felt much more like I belong there. I enjoyed it a lot! I even parted from the group for few kilometers, walking somewhere between someone and someone and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere on my own.
We arrived to Vilalba already around noon and Maria, because he had some troubles with his leg, went to the hospital. (At the end it wasn’t serious enough to stop him from continuing.)
We left our bags in the super modern albergue and went shopping for the dinner - this day Enrique decided to make pasta with sauce for all of us, only Akie left the group and continued to catch up with her Japanese friend. It was delicious!! Yummy! Mmmm!
Later in the evening I had the chance to speak once again with a dear friend of mine - Andras also arrived to Vilalba! Such a surprise! Simply, you never know when it really is the last time and when not.
During the evening rush in the hostel we started to chat with a girl named Ruth from Colorado. I spent hours talking to her, until it was the time to go to bed. But she already became a part of our happy, funny group and the next day joined us.

Unfortunately the memory card in my camera was already full, therefore there are no pictures from this day.

Lourenzá - Gontán (en)

In the albergue in Lourenzá we met Enrique (another Spanish pilgrim) and the next day he started with us. Even though Nunny, Beatrice and Jacques left a little bit earlier to get somewhere their morning coffee, we met them soon after and our group this day was made out of nine people!
As we needed to ascend to about 500m from almost the sea level and the group was not really unified in their speed, we splitted it naturally as we walked. Every now and then we met each other but we walked much more extended.
Today I spent mostly with Beatrice, Nunny and Jacques.
With Nunny I was for example running around Mondonedo and looking for a bakery. Until we finally found it! But it was not a bakery I would have expected, there was no shop, it really was just a bakery and you could buy the bread directly from the baker. And it was the first "real" bread I had there in Spain, oh, how happy I was to hold it in my hands! And Nunny looked as happy as me from our discovery. Together we left Mondonedo as the last ones from our group, a little bit nervous if Beatrice and Jacques were waiting for us somewhere or not.
The rest of the day we spent walking in a very rural and forestal countryside with only few houses along the road which you cannot really call a village. The road was not very steep but permanently gained altitude. After few kilometres we run into Beatrice and Jacques and immediately felt much better. Neither Nunny nor me said it, but we were a little bit worried about the disappearing of the two.
I got into a very deep and personal conversation with Beatrice and later with Jacques, listening to their life stories and wondering how great people they are, how open hearted and bright. Both of them and especially Beatrice have my deepest respect also because they were so open with me and trusted me so much. I learned a lot from them, from their philosophy and attitude to life. I have few tips for reading from Beatrice and I am eagerly awaiting a book which Jacques is writing about the Camino and his life.

When the four of us arrived to Gontán, the Spanish guys were already there - all of them. And Ramiro started to prepare what he had promised - a great paella for all of us! We had so much fun not just eating it but already preparing it. Drinking the red wine and Gaseosa, giving advice to Ramiro and laughing a lot we spent amazing afternoon (yes, afternoon because we arrived to the albergue quite early today). I learned new things about Spain and Spanish people and also about the members of our group - that Nunny used to work as a chef, the story about Ramiro and his divorce and many others. We spent a wonderful day and our group got even bigger - one of the lovely Japanese ladies, Akie, joined us for the dinner and the next day walked with us.

Pinera - Ribadeo (cz)

Dnes mě čekala náročná trasa, něco přes 40km, pokud opravdu dojdu až do cíle, do Galicie.
Zase si dovolím tu a tam nějakou citaci z mého cestovního deníku:
No a tam, aby těch setkání nebylo málo, jsme potkali Jacquese, Beatrice a Nunny! A samozřejmě vína.
