A v naší čtvrti měl svou zastávku.

Kromě expozice různých věcí a věciček spojených s tehdejším fungováním provozu vlaků jsme si prolezli i staré vagóny zaparkované na nástupišti.

V centru jsem navštívila i další z budov vyprávějících o historii města i celé země - Dům nezávislosti (La casa de la independencia). Letmá výstava historického nábytku, obrazů a několika dokumentů by vůbec nebyla zajímavá, kdybych jí nenavštívila s Robertem.

ENGLISH

Paraguay. And it's capital - Asunción... I won't try to lie and say that I knew much about those places. But that made me just more eager to learn everything I could. I was asking many questions to all my new friends and listened so carefully so that I don't miss anything. And my friend Roberto was the best company I could have asked for. History enthusiast, excellent storyteller, a big traveler himself and he knew interesting corners in the city that no many of the best guides would have known.

As he said himself, he was his own boss, so he picked me up one morning and took to the first historical visit of the town.

Cine Cañisa

Once the city had a train. And it had a stop also in our neighborhood. Around this stop there used to be a center of all the activities, the markets took place there, people had their meetings there and there also used to be a wholesale and retail of all the goods the trains were bringing. In the same building as a local cinema.
Today the place is almost empty, surviving just because of care of one older man. The shop stopped working some years ago, the cinema much longer back. It's really a beautiful place. And I hope that all the care and attention won't be useless and that the place revives soon again with some activity. At least as a museum. But most importantly, that it won't disappear. It would be fantastic to go to see some old movie during my next visit to the city, I would survive even the uncomfortable seats, I guess.

The train station

We continued tracking the train and ended up in a museum of trains in the center. The beautiful historical building where the museum is today used to be the central train station. Besides the exposition of various things connected with the function of the station we could see the interior of few old train compartments.

Antique shop

Just next to the train station there is the place where Roberto works. He makes his living selling antiques and I was in his shop various times during my visit. So I had enough time to marvel at the quantity of the thingies he had there. It's a very small place filled with curiosities and interesting things, there is always a lot to see.

The center of the city

I visited another building telling parts of the history of the country in the city center - The House if the Independence. The exposition of things wasn't that astonishing, but it serves its purpose and a visitor can have a clear image of the interiors of a house from those times. However, visiting the place with Roberto was a completely different story. He knew about all the things and told me which are really interesting and important and which not.
There are many interesting historical buildings, museums or houses of the rich people from the past in the city center. Unfortunately many of them are falling apart. When I was discussing with my friends why, many of them thought that there was a great interest in new developer's plans in the area so the people prefer to let the building fall down to sell the land well. i think someone should take care of that. The only question is, how??

La Rosada - Minas Cué

During the weekend we visited with my friend Lourdes and her other friends a national park Ybycuí and the historical iron casting foundry as well as the repository of arms called La Rosada. It is closely connected with the Was of the Triple Alliance in the nineteenth century. If I got it right, the was took place not so far from La Rosada so it was a strategical decision to build the place there, close to the battlefield.

ESPAÑOL

Paraguay. No sabía nada.

A není tam tolik turistů. Dlouho jsem stála a sledovala padající vodu, nechávala v ní odlouvat mé myšlenky a strachy.

Asunción

Do hlavního města jsem přijela s "pouhým" hodinovým zpožděním. A autobus se nám cestou nepokazil. Proč to říkám - autobusová doprava má v Paraguai špatnou pověst, většinou se prý něco cestou porouchá.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, I took the courage and crossed the Brazilian border and with that also a border of my comfort zone. In the end everything was much better than I expected. I smoothly passed both immigration offices and from the Brazilian city Foz do Iguaçu I arrived to the Paraguayan Ciudad del Este. Well, I would prefer to call it Babylon…

Ciudad del Este

I think that almost all Brazil buys their stuff there, or at least it looks like that. Why? The things are much cheaper and you can get almost everything there. You can imagine than the mess and chaos of such a commercial area, all these shopping centers and stands on the street. All the time you are shown things, people always trying to sell you something. It is a jungle. What is funny, you almost won’t see a natives there, most of the businesses are owned and run by Brazilians, who go back home after the work. Few streets away from the border the city started to look almost normal.

After some searching we found the bus terminal. I bought my ticket and I was nicely surprised with the VIP air-conditioned waiting room with wifi. I turned back the time, (yes, I gained one hour!) and just waited for the bus happy that I am on the move again.

Saltos del Monday

I visited these beautiful waterfalls just a few minutes from Ciudad del Este when I was still officially in Brazil. We took a one day trip with my friends and then returned back to Brazil. The falls are much smaller than Iguacu falls, but they are very nice. and quite photogenic. You also find much less tourists around which makes it quite pleasant. I stayed a long time watching the falling water and letting my thoughts and fears fall with it.

Asunción

I arrived to the capital with “just” one hour of delay. The bus didn’t break down during the trip. Why do I say that - well, the Praguayan buses have really bad name, usually they break down. I am not sure if it’s so true or not, but I can recommend the company I used, NSA (Nuestra Señora de la Asunción).

My Couchsurfing host Lurdes came to pick me up. Yes, after some time I am in again. Already in the car we started to talk about millions of topics and I could say that we are a match. We arrived to her place, opened a bottle of wine and continued talking. Just after these few hours in a new environment I already felt very comfortable. I was just having a little problem with my Spanish.

A little bit from the culture - Tereré

I noticed already at the border that everybody in Paraguay is always accompanied by a big termo and a special cum with metal straw which I knew was used for drinking maté. But the termo for maté looked different. So I asked and was told, that it was "tereré", a mixture of maté and herbs. Unlike maté they use iced water (that's what they have in the termo) and make a super refreshing drink. Paraguay is a very hot country, so all the people use tereré for survival :D I also already accepted this habit, it's extremely refreshing. And after all it's a social event, to offer each other a sip of tereré.

There are many things to tell, the first days were very intensive, but I will save that for the next time :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Třídím fotky a sepisuji zážitky.

Tolkiena, usínala s nimi a snila o dlouhých výpravách a dobrodružných cestách.

Pak jsme padli vysílení a okamžitě usnuli.

Další den ráno jsme osedlali koně a hladoví jeli hledat jednoho známého.

Přes kopce dál a dál

Rozlehlé pláně pohoří Cipó, vítr, slunce a kilometry cesty. Splněný sen. Víc už řeknou fotky...
-----------------
I am organizing my pictures. There are many of them. I haven't told you about my incredible adventure on a horse back. Now it's the right time :)

I grew up with the books of J.R.R. Tolkien, slept with them and dreamt about long adventurous expeditions and trips. Short time ago, without even noticing, I found myself on one of those trips.

An adventurous journey

One day after a little bit of planning and with a lot of courage we left our home in Abrigo Lapinha around midday with three horses and a mule which helped us to carry our baggage. We were heading to 60 km distant village called Serra do Cipó on the foothills of a national park of the same name. Nobody really measured the kilometers and I would say that at the end there were much more of them. The trip was beautiful but because of the strong sun it was also quite demanding. Only few minutes before midnight we arrived to a pasture where we planned to leave our horses overnight. And because of this late hour we didn’t even try to contact our friend who offered us an accommodation and simply built our tents newt to our horses. At the second we lied down we all felt asleep.

The next morning we prepared our horses and walked few more kilometers without breakfast until we found our friend. He was already prepared to join the group and continue with us as a guide on the next part of our trip. However, after a late breakfast and general discussion we decided to take a day off, have a rest and continue the next day.

Walls full of history

We found ourselves back in time. The place where we stayed belongs to the oldest farms in the region. Formerly, it used to be full with people, mostly slaves, working on the extensive fields. So this stop over was for me a brief visit to the Brazilian history as well. I learned many new things talking to the people who live there and know the history of the place. And I also discovered new fruit which I hadn’t known till then - "cajumanga". A delicious mixture between the taste of mango and cashew.

Far away over the hills

Continuation of our amazing trip started after a good rest-day. We traveled from a village called Serra do Cipó over the mountains to Lapinha da Serra (well, the name is just a coincidence, "our" Lapinha is a completely different place).

The road was long, demanding (the climb to the top of the mountains with a strong sun above completely dragged out all of my energy), the terrain was often full of big stones which we had to climb next to our horses and the last part of the trip we did just with the starlight, finding our way over the streams and rivers. But we all survived without harm. And I have to tell that I trusted much more to the vision of my dear companion (horse) than to my own eyes.

Vast plains of the Cipó mountains, wind, sun and kilometers of the dusty road. A fulfilled dream. Let the photos tell the story...
---------------------------

Vyrazili jsme
We hit the road
Partimos
Sometimes it is necessary to check the equipment and rest in the shade, there is not much of it
The next day in the morning we had a meeting with our new companion and guide
At the end we didn't continue, we satyed in an old house and talked about the past and present with our hosts and learned many new things.
"A live musem" or where the past meets the present
Pro mě ty stěny a pokoje měly fascinující atmosféru
I was almost fascinated by the walls and the floor
Like from a tale
I think that already many feet walked here, what were their stories?
I almost forgot to mention the carambola tree...a paradise!
Between the present and the oblivion there stand just few old buildings and last people who still remember the stories.
Some photos are here just about the atmosphere, just because I wanted :)

Tady kdysi bydleli otroci
A place where the slaves used to live
El lugar donde vivían los esclavos
Přípravy na cestu - rozdělování nákladu
Preparations for the trip - distribution of the load
We are leaving in few minutes
Ya estamos saliendo
Jeden z posledních domů na cestě do kopců
One of the last houses to our way up to the mountains
A nikde nebyl žádný stín...
And there was no shade to be found...
Refreshing the horses by the river
Unexpected beauties of the surrounding nature
Las bellezas inesperadas de la naturaleza
Je fajn si oddychnout...
It's nice to take a break...
...and have a look to what we are leaving behind
Whe I look at this picture I think, is it really possible that I was there? It IS!
No řekněte, není to nádhera?
Just look! Isn't it beautiful?
I was feeling incredibly free and happy, I wish you could feel the same.

Sedla odložena, koně nakrmení, teď se jdeme najíst my.
The saddles down, the horses fed, now it's time for us to eat.

It is definitely worth visiting this place again and with more time...

...but now it's time to go
